Museum Ulpiano Checa
It contains the broadest Ulpiano Checa’s collection (1860-1916), most of it historical painting of end of XIX century, orientalist painting and other works. The building, restored and extended, is accessed by well-taken care gardens, where in addition to the painter’s bust is located a monument dedicated to the most characteristic elements of the city: the stone and the tinaja (a kind of jar). The work of Checa has served as reference for scenographies of the great Hollywood cinematographic productions, to the point that films like Ben-Hur seems extracted from his oils (the last days of Pompeya, the Naumaquia, Race of Cars…)
