Coordinates and Extension
The city of Colmenar de Oreja is located in the plateau of the hydrographic region of the rivers Tajo and Tajuña, latitude 40º 07´ 00’' North and longitude 5º 47´ 30’’ East of the Madrid meridian. Its altitude in relation with Mediterranean level is 753 meters in the jamb of the North door of the St. María la Mayor’s Church, although the highest point denominated Navarredonda has an altitude of 780 meters; the lower point is 250 meters, in the Zone of Tajo River.

Situation
Colmenar de Oreja is located in the South of the Province of Madrid, about 50 km from the capital, its extension limits to the North with Valdelaguna, Chinchon and Villaconejos; by the South, with the province of Toledo and the Villarrubia de Santiago, Noblejas, Oreja, Ocaña and Aranjuez, in the dividing waters of the Tajo river; to the East, with those of Belmonte del Tajo, Villarejo de Salvanés and Villarrubia de Santiago; and to the West, with Aranjuez.

Geologic formation and relief
Time of Miocene, Tertiary Age, (limestone marls, marly white, silex, specular plasters and fine sands, limestone and plasters and plastery marls). Quaternary Age (limes, sands and gravel) in northwest and south. Predominant material: limestone, plasters and sediments. The relief passes from the low mountain to the moor and valley.
Climate
Continental climate. Annual average temperature: 14ºC. Average in January: 5ºC. Average in July: 25ºC. Sunstroke: 2.800 hours/year. Precipitation: 400 mm/year.
Vegetation
Formation of thyme, and esparto grass. Forests of little extension of pines, oak and “quejigo”. In the riverbeds, black poplars, willows, reed beds and elms.
Population
Stabilized at the present time around the 7,300 inhabitants. In 1920 and 1940, Colmenar de Oreja already had 6,050 inhabitants, being until good entered century XX, the third municipality more populating with Madrid, after Alcala de Henares and Aranjuez.
