The Set of the Fumaces

The manufacture of tinaja, used in wine elaboration and conservation, was the most characteristic of the local industries. Unique in its kind, tinaja of Colmenar reached fair fame and populated all the wine cellars of Spain.

They got to work up to three dozens of furnaces simultaneously. At the present time, five or six of these buildings still stay on, protected as pieces of singular and unique architecture.

One tinaja from Colmenar opened the pavilion of Madrid in the Universal Exhibition of Seville in 1992 and another one of them decorates the gardens of the Princes de Asturias’ House, gift of the City Council in the occasion of its wedding.
